Denty to Handle U S Crop Loans in Hempstead County

Field Inspector J A Bell announced that the 1933 federal crop loan program for Hempstead county will operate from Hope with N W Denty in charge. Joe Bailey will supervise Nevada county loans from Prescott, as aides cover three days a week in Hope and Prescott.

Legislature Defeats Extended Session Near End

In Arkansas the House adopted six appropriation bills with amendments to two, and set night sessions for Wed Thu and Fri with seven days left in the term. Senate actions included designating the State Debt Board to negotiate with the Reconstruction Finance Corporation for school bond loans. A new refunding measure for state highways passed the House roads committee, detailing exchange of various highway obligations for 3 percent state bonds dated May 1, 1933 and maturing in 25 years with provisions on litigation, districts, and sinking funds.

Ford's Secretary Turns Up Safely

Earnest G. Liebold secretary to Henry Ford failed to appear after leaving a Detroit banking conference. He telephoned from Traverse City saying he had just awakened and did not know why he was sought. Probers traced the case through Ford officials who learned he had been working days on plans to start two new Detroit banks.

Date School Vote in County Changed

The county school elections move to the third Saturday in May for all districts except Hope. Hope district votes on the original date. County Superintendent E. E. Austin announced the change Wednesday under a new legislative act affecting districts statewide.

Barton Jailed for Louisiana Bank Robbery Connection

Gip Barton of Garland City is jailed in Caddo Parish on a warrant charging complicity in the Winnfield Louisiana bank robbery from December 29. He previously faced charges related to the First National Bank robbery here and was jailed in Texarkana before being moved to Shreveport. A separate hearing is planned Friday for Irvin Bonham, the chauffeur in the bandit car.

J H Garner 77 died at his son Dr W M Garner 305 North Ferguson street at 2 am Wednesday. Body shipped noon to Alma Arkansas former home. Funeral set at Cleave Cawthorn home Alma at 2 pm Thursday. Arkadelphia Bank Robbery Nets $9200. Loot Recovered

Clifford Massey, ex convict and Little Rock bootlegger, was arrested in Arkadelphia after a Citizens Bank robbery that netted $9200. Two 17 year old witnesses spotted the robbers, a third accomplice fled in a red Chevrolet, and all money was recovered.

Ethel McIver Dies at Home Near City

Funeral services for Miss Ethel Mc Iver 37 daughter of J P Doc Mc Iver were held at Water Creek church Tuesday afternoon burial in Water Creek cemetery. Ruff Boyett, three time mayor of Hope, wins a fourth term after defeating Mayor Vesey 594 to 337 in the runoff. T. R. Billingsley beats Bert Keith 520 to 404 for recorder and Charles Reynerson defeats Claude Agee for treasurer 610 to 321. Municipal judge A. A. Gentry and four aldermen run unopposed.

States Favor Repeal, Says Literary Digest Poll

The Literary Digest analysis of 1922 1930 and 1932 prohibition polls forecasts forty six states will endorse repeal of the Eighteenth Amendment. The magazine notes its straw ballot accuracy in presidential years and suggests drys need thirteen states to support repeal if a direct vote occurs.

The senate accepted house amendments to the Smith cotton pool and acreage reduction bill and sent the measure to the White House amid doubt over President Hoover's signature. Boy Dies as Fire Destroys Arkansas Home

Fayetteville Arkansas reports Wes ley Eakin 12 died in a home fire that also left his brother J R Eakin 25 critically burned. Their parents and another couple escaped unharmed. The cause of the blaze remains undetermined.

Limited Banking for Kentucky and Tennessee Areas

Governors in Tennessee and Kentucky declared bank holidays. Tennessee's McAlister ordered immediate effect through Monday, while Kentucky's Lafoon set March 4, 2, and 4 as days of restriction. Burglary Suspect Flees Naked After Surprise

In El Paso Texas a burglar attempting to rob a cleaning shop was surprised by the watchman as he disrobed to try on a new suit and clothes. The naked thief fled the scene without finishing the crime.
