Weather continues with scattered showers and thundershowers across the area. Wednesday brings partly cloudy skies with a chance of afternoon and evening storms. Temperatures hold steady with highs near 84 and lows around 66 to 74.
Survivors recount a blast aboard the floating oil rig C. P. Baker. Sparks touched off the explosion as the Delta Service workboat tied alongside. Flames spread, forcing crew to jump, while the rig sank in over 100 feet of water. The C. P. Baker, built last year, cost about 6 million dollars and several other Reading & Bates rigs operate in the Gate area.
Robert F. Kennedy told a Polish student in Krakow that his brother was not the victim of a conspiracy or communism. He said there is no question Lee Harvey Oswald killed President John F. Kennedy and did it on his own.
Hot Springs Arkansas AP reportsGarland Circuit Judge P E Dobbs dismissed more than 120 criminal cases on statute of limitations grounds. The cases dated 1951 through 1962 and involved 118 defendants facing charges from robbery to manslaughter. Prosecutor David Whittington claimed Dobbs refused to convene a grand jury despite requests, citing procedural delays.
Retiring ambassador Lodge met the president at the White House then faced reporters with Lodge beside him to thank for his service in Saigon. Asked by AP general manager Wes Gallagher, Lodge said things in Viet Nam began to improve and he felt it his duty to be here.
