Rubens the Great Painter Diplomat of Europe
European courts welcomed Peter Paul Rubens as painter and diplomat. Born in Prussia in 1677, he lived much of life in Antwerp and created about 1300 works, including Descent from the Cross and Adoration of the Magi. His diplomacy earned him knighthood from Charles I. Belgium issued a Rubens portrait stamp in 1930.
