Melrose Home Demonstration Club Meets at Hope Fair Bank

The Melrose Home Demonstration Club held a June meeting led by Mrs. Jewel Stitt on intelligent credit and Hobie Management. Officers and speakers included Mrs. J F Manguni on citizenship and Mrs. W Lamar Williams on family life. Mrs. H ft Patterson gave devotional When We Have Fears from Psalm 46. Otho Roberts led prayer. Virgil Huckabee presided over a brief business session. The group discussed the improvement project and a rest home visit, then adjourned for refreshments and planned to meet at Fair Park in July.

UN agrees to take up revolt in Hungary

UNITED NATIONS, N. Y. The United States and 23 other nations report unanimous support to have the U N General Assembly take up the special U N report on the Hungarian revolt as soon as practicable. A five nation U N investigating committee dated June 20 said the Soviet Union crushed a spontaneous uprising last fall and now maintains a forceful government. Diplomats consider a special session prior to the September 17 regular Assembly, with U S Delegate Henry Cabot Lodge noting plans for ministers to attend could draw a larger audience. The 24 sponsoring nations decided the Assembly should act promptly while weighing Hungary’s interests and the issues involved. No party indicated a concrete proposal beyond urging timely action.

Helena to Elect a New Mayor in Special August Vote

Helena Ark voters will go to the polls August 6 to name a successor to the late Mayor Jatres Tapp? n Horner, who died June 17. Only candidate to announce is Sam Aus derson, a radio station executive City Attorney David Solomiin reported to the city council yesterday. Attorney General Bruce Bennetts ruled the election would not be held to fill the vacancy. Floyd Curtis has been acting mayor.
