Military Chairman Plan Dubbed Dangerous By Hoover
Washington June 29 Herbert Hoover warned that a military chairman for the joint chiefs would be dangerous to the country and concentrate power. He testified before the armed services committee criticizing the proposed two year old unified law and the rise of a single chief of staff role. President Truman and Forrestal backed the plan which would give the chairman wide advisory power to the president and secretary of defense. Vinson and Rep Short expressed concern about the expanded powers and potential for a de facto single chief of staff for all armed forces.
