TVA Waterway Plan to Link Pickwick to Gulf
Bruce Catton notes TVA may gain a nine foot waterway from Pickwick Dam on the Tombigbee to Mobile Alabama. The $40 million project would cut a canal through a gap with locks and dams, reaching Demopolis Alabama, linking TVA to gulf commerce and easing upper Mississippi trade. Rankin backs the measure, arguing direct gulf access and flood relief. The idea dates to 1827 and has been favorably reported to the Senate.
