San Miguel Mission: Calm Center in Alta California History
San Miguel Mission, founded July 1797 and one of 21 Pacific coast missions, sits between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Today it hosts a novitiate program for about 20 young men, with restored church interiors and adobe walls, while its past endured fires, plagues, drought, secularization, and later restoration by Franciscan Fathers.
