Social Security boost eyed for quick approval
A 20 percent across the board Social Security increase appears headed for congressional approval by next week. Sen. Frank Church and Rep. Wilbur Mills favor a rider on the debt limit bill to push the measure, with retroactive June 1 and automatic cost-of-living adjustments, financed by raising the wage base. The plan seeks quick checks before the November elections.
