Pasquale A Massi 63 of Cherry Hill New Jersey an alleged Cosa Nostra figure was arrested by the FBI in Hot Springs Arkansas on charges of sodomy and bribery. Wage Hikes Offered to Garbage Men
Mayor Austin Franks offered striking workers a wage increase to end the sanitation walkout in Pine Bluff Arkansas. The proposal included 10 cent per hour raises for truck drivers and 16 cent per hour raises for garbage collectors with a Wednesday deadline to accept or face replacements. Union leaders said they could not assemble the membership in time and urged a vote on the offer Thursday. Twenty six employees returned to work by Wednesday afternoon, but about 50 remained on strike and Franks signaled no immediate enforcement of the deadline.
