Scientist Van Karman Receives Medal of Freedom

Los Angeles I A presidential Medal of Freedom was presented to Dr Theodore Von Karman at an Institute of Aeronautical Science dinner in his honor. The Hungarian born scientist became a U S citizen in 1936 and directed the Guggenheim Aeronautical Laboratory at Caltech from 1930 to 1944. He now chairs NATO's advisory group for air research and development.

Bottlers and Brewers Agree On Pay Increases and Benefits

Workers obtain an 14 cent hourly rise each year under the new contract adding a 49 dollar weekly delivery pay plus a five cent per case beer commission. Bottlers receive 82.20 dollars weekly and Brewers 88.60 dollars weekly. The agreement also provides paid holidays and vacation after ten and seventeen years of service, with three weeks after a decade and four weeks after 17 years.
