The 14th annual Arkansas Poultry Festival was an outstanding success, per the Arkansas Poultry Federation. Held in Hot Springs on June 14 15 and 16, it featured three days of meetings events and festivities.
Weather station reports 24 hours ending 7 am Wednesday with high 91 and low 65 and 0.93 inches rainfall. State forecast calls for considerable cloudiness and cooler conditions across the state with scattered showers and thunder showers mainly in the south and east. Tonight will have scattered showers in extreme southeast then partly cloudy, a touch cooler. Today's highs expected in the low to mid 80s, tonight’s lows upper 50s to mid 60s, and Thursday’s highs in the mid 80s.
A banquet for over 1,000 attendees honored poultry producers wives princess contestants and cookin contestants with 4 H bar b queing winners named. The Arkansas Poultry Federation installed a new president. An evening program featured Karen Blackwell Tom Bonner Judy Pryor Jerry Van Dyke and Skip Duvall with a beauty pageant and a fresh poultry cookin queen chosen. Internationally known surgeon and Texas education figure Dr. Jeo G. Cigarroa died in a Dallas hospital after a brief illness at age 51. Born in Mexico City in 1922, he rose to prominence in medicine and served on multiple boards and in public education roles in Laredo. Funeral services were planned for Laredo with a Catholic Mass and burial at the local cemetery.

Ollie S. Stover, 72, died Monday night at DeQueen Ark. hospital. Survived by wife Josie, three sons Ollie Joe Henry Charles Jasper, two daughters Mary Lou Parker and Louise Isenhower, a brother Garrett, and nine grandchildren. Funeral 2 p.m. today at Wilkerson Funeral Home DeQueen. burial Chapel Hill cemetery. Herman A. Beckham, 71, father of Doddridge Ark. resident, died Monday in Debarch La. Survived by three sons, widow, three brothers, four sisters, and 14 grandchildren. burial 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Harmony Chapel. Retchikan Alaska noted as salmon capital.
Kansas City police chief Clarence M. Kelley, nominated as FBI director, told Senate hearings he has a compassionate feeling for Blacks and has pursued their recruitment in the police force. He noted the 1968 King assassination riots produced deaths, injuries, arrests, fires, and $1 million in damage as his lone serious problem. He supported domestic surveillance under limits and urged congressional oversight to keep the FBI independent of politics.
