State Forest Group Will Cut Expenses
The Arkansas Forestry Commission directed Director Virgil Cothren not to fill vacancies or authorize personnel reductions without commission approval in the last six months of the year. Revenues from timber severance taxes have fallen nearly 70 000 dollars this past year, prompting talk of possible salary cuts if the 1969 legislature does not help. The commissioners showed cautious optimism about an upswing in revenues and asked Cothren to pursue non staffing cost cuts first.
