Train wreck and fires force Neelyville evacuation

Two freight trains collided near Neelyville Missouri causing 79 cars derailment and fires. About 400 residents were evacuated while crews battled blazes and water had to be ferried from Naylor as vinyl chloride and other chemicals raised explosion fears. Two crewmen were injured and an Amtrak train was redirected to Little Rock.

Motorist hurt as trailer leaves highway on Highway 4

James Micheal Westerbuhr 20 of El Dorado was southbound on Highway 4 when his 22 foot goose neck trailer swung off the pavement. The trailer traveled 130 feet before resting beside a 1973 Chevy pickup, damaging its right side. The rig belonged to Longs Pipe-type Sheet Metal Co of El Dorado, and Duvall Moore of the Arkansas State Police investigated.

Hope Native Jimmy Allen Elected SBC President

The Rev. Jimmy Allen, a Hope native born on a 1927 farm in Old Providence, was chosen Tuesday as president of the Southern Baptist Convention. He grew up in Detroit and Dallas, now serves as pastor of First Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas, and maintains strong church ties in the Hope area.
