Maritime wage rise fuels seafarers overtime pay rule
The Labor Department announces overtime pay of one dollar per hour for Sunday sea work and for Saturday and Sunday in port, effective today. Seamen at sea work 60 hours weekly plus overtime credits, with a 48-hour cap at sea and 40 in port before overtime. The raise, a 22-cent hourly increase, also retroactive to August, follows board recommendations and union endorsement.
