Pleasant Weekend Weather For Arkansas

The Associated Press reports a pleasant weekend in store for Arkansas with partly cloudy skies and warmer temperatures. Scattered showers are possible especially in the northeast today tonight and Saturday. The outlook for Sunday through Tuesday calls for continued mild conditions and limited rainfall.

A high pressure system over the southeast states brings sunny skies today with a warm high near 85 degrees and increasing humidity. Southwesterly winds from Texas usher moisture into Arkansas, producing rising clouds and showers possible Monday with highs around the mid 80s and lows in the mid to upper 60s.

Prescott youth is sentenced in Federal court

Herbert Lee Williams, 19, of Prescott Arkansas, received a two year probated sentence after pleading guilty to possession of stolen mail forging and uttering. Sylvester Flemons, 26, of Prescott, Arkansas, was found innocent by a federal jury of making a false statement to acquire a firearm and unlawfully receiving a firearm. The four men and eight women jury deliberated three hours and twenty minutes. Houston AP reported former Texas Governor John Connally calling jurors preferable to defendants after he served as a juror in municipal court and declined token pay.

Kidnaped Students Appeal to Ambassadors Again

Stanford University officials said US and Dutch ambassadors in Tanzania received second letters from three kidnapped students. The letters urged action to save their lives as captors demand releases, money, and weapons. The three captives are Carrie Hunter, Kenneth Smith, and Emilie Bergmann. Barbara Smuts was released earlier. The situation remains delicate with no immediate new reports.

Leaders of four parties reject Indira Gandhi in crisis

In New Delhi non Communist opposition parties led by the Socialists Jana Sangh Congress and Bhartia Principal People s Party declare they no longer recognize Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. They urge President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed to return from vacation to address the constitutional crisis after her election law conviction. The move comes amid Gujarat election reversals as Congress loses seats to Morarji Desai led coalition.

Harmony Church marks 50th anniversary in 1975

The Harmony Church in Nevada County preserves its pioneer roots from 1861 built with logs and mud, later rebuilt after 1930 damage.
