In Fort Worth Texas the Southern Presbyterians voted to reject the idea that my country right or wrong is true patriotism, affirming that patriotism includes self-criticism and obedience to God when national policy conflicts with faith. Delegates also backed a conservative stance on pornography and kept a Washington communications post with a $20 000 annual salary, despite calls to end the liaison.

Texarkana youth Curtis Turner shot to death
Curtis Turner twenty of Texarkana was found dead of bullet wounds on a front porch near North Little Rock. John Ralph Degler twenty three was arrested in North Little Rock and charged in Turner's death. An alleged companion was also arrested. Funeral services were held for Frank M. Cochran 78 in Bradley Baptist Church with burial at Walnut Hill Cemetery. Survivors include his widow a son a daughter two sisters and five grandchildren. Hosea F. Wisdom 81 had services at Latimer Funeral Home Chapel Nashville with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery. He died in a Murfreesboro hospital leaving two sons two brothers six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Nat Harrison 64 brother of Mrs. P. C. Power of Hope died in a Nashville hospital. Services were at Bellville Church near Lockesburg with interment at Bellville Cemetery. He was a lifelong Lockesburg resident, a farmer and rancher, survived by his widow Irene two daughters two brothers two sisters and six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

FBI probes Chicot County land purchase in Arkansas
U S Attorney Dilahunty says the FBI is investigating the use of 90000 dollars in federal revenue sharing funds by Chicot County to buy about 100 acres. County Judge James R Burchfield approved the March 29 purchase from Fred Michaels, bank president and ally of Burchfield. Michaels bought the land on March 9 for 45000 dollars. No wrongdoing has been alleged by Burchfield or Michaels. The land will serve as a storage site for heavy machinery and an industrial park.
