Colombia’s peaceful agrarian reform expands farmer land ownership
Since 1961 Colombia’s Agrarian Reform Institute has granted titles to over 100,000 families, now owning about 50 acres each. By 1969 eighty thousand families were buying land under a government program with aid from US AID providing $18.8 million in supervised credit and technical help, lifting many former sharecroppers into owned farms and doubling income in two years.
