In Washington the AP reports the U S denial of Cuban charges that Marine sentries at Guantanamo fired on and wounded a Cuban soldier. The Defense Department called the Havana claim typical and unfounded noting no ammunition was expended by U S personnel. A Havana source said a Cuban was wounded first time but others fired on our men before. The Pentagon confirmed no firing occurred after base check. Jobs Available: Labor Dept says good outlook for junior college and technical graduates with occupation-specific training. liberal arts majors face tougher employment.

Scranton signals openness to nomination after Gettysburg meeting

At the Governors Conference Scranton shows willingness to be more available for a drive for the nomination following a Gettysburg meeting with Dwight D. Eisenhower. Eisenhower reportedly urged Scranton Sunday morning not to join any stop-Gold movement. Later on CBS Scranton said he was available but would not actively seek the nomination, sticking to an honest and sincere draft. Schweiker said the sequence did not help Scranton but noted five weeks remain to influence the convention.

The President's Committee on Equal Employment Opportunity announced a nationwide drive to end employment discrimination on federal and federally assisted construction projects. A 40-person task force from various federal agencies will form teams of three or four across 10 regions centered on Atlanta Chicago Cleveland Dallas Miami Nashville New Orleans New York Philadelphia and San Francisco.
