Farm plan rejected by REA in Arkansas
The Arkansas Power and Light Co proposal to finish and operate rural cooperative electric projects in Arkansas was rejected by John M. Carmody head of the Rural Electrification Administration in Washington. He signaled drastic changes would be needed before any approval. The plan, presented by Harvey Couch, would have supplied current to cooperatives at wholesale rates and set consumer charges similar to small towns, prompting REA to affirm cooperatives must be independent and strong.
