Protestant group seeks recall of Truman envoy to the pope

Richmond ministers said President Truman would recall Myron C. Taylor as ambassador to the pope by the time peace treaties are signed. Dr John A. MacLean, representing Southern Presbyterian churches, claimed the arrangement is temporary and violates church state separation. The group, claiming 40 million Protestants, said unity supported retaining an ambassador to the pope temporarily.

Austin named US representative to United Nations Security Council

Washington reports President Truman designated Warren R. Austin of Vermont as American representative on the United Nations Security Council. The 63 year old Republican will work with Soviet counterpart Andrei Gromyko, aiming to ease Soviet attitude while discussing NATO and UN duties. Austin noted in June commencement remarks that Russia seeks security through buffer states and cautioned US policy must align with UN Charter.

Judge Auten Delivers Floggings to Three Camp Robinson Soldiers

Circuit Judge Lawrence Auten invited Pulaski County jurors to review details of offenses and the punishment in a public session last Saturday. Oklahoma City Club Blaze Sends 40 Guests Flee in Night

A fire at the Empire Room of an Oklahoma City club forced 40 guests to flee in their night clothes as flames swept the area. Firefighters contained the blaze with permanent arrest to prevent spread while many escaped from beds and windows.
