Crank explains background stay during Arkansas session
State Rep. Marion Crank of Foreman said he stayed in the background during the recent special legislative session because he was a gubernatorial candidate. He told Gov. Rockefeller he could not sponsor administration bills or participate actively. Crank noted he would have faced criticism for campaigning on the floor and said the session could have lasted four days, but extended to nine. He indicated he would have voted against tobacco tax proposals and favored only the real property transfer tax, urging caution on tax plans without revenue data for the next biennium. Crank also called Medicaid cost studies necessary and hoped Congress would adjust funding before 1970.
