Fallout test drives small yield beyond earlier arms tests

Fallout was expected to be very small and radar cloud tracking traced movement of radiation laden clouds. The blast today was about 1000 tons of TNT, roughly 120th the size of the wartime bombs on Japan. Sixteen military effects experiments were conducted including radiological safety equipment tests with small numbers of personnel. Closed circuit TV cameras monitored the blast closeup for the AEC to keep scientists informed of the balloon's exact position as it swung at its moorings.
