Acquittal Signals Jury Unity in Angela Davis Case
San Jose California AP jurors who acquitted Angela Davis on murder kidnap conspiracy charges showed little early discord in their innocence from the start of deliberations. The forewoman Mary Timothy said the all white jury voted nine to three on the first ballot with no votes for conviction. Davis wept as she thanked supporters at a courthouse press conference calling the result a peoples victory. Prosecution offered no comment. The verdict followed a 16 month jail stay after the August 7, 1970 Marin County courthouse escape attempt.
