Early verdict on Cambodian sweep remains uncertain
Senior U.S. officers caution it is too soon to judge whether the Cambodia operation will yield long term success. They cite the test of North Vietnamese efforts to reestablish supply routes via the Se Kong and Mekong river systems and to shift the main combat role to South Vietnamese forces as U.S. withdrawals proceed. The final outcome may not be clear until fall, despite Nixon's upbeat interim report.
