Today Young Men Seek Career Security, Not Opportunity
HAL BOYLE argues younger generations prefer careers insured against risk over entrepreneurial opportunity. He cites Fortune magazine noting only 2 percent of 149 graduates intend to start their own business, and many favor jobs with large firms, signaling a shift from individual risk to collective security. He reflects on past American ideals of opportunity and contrasts them with today’s pursuit of predictable outcomes.

Prison escape linked to Ohio river thefts in West Virginia
In a Wheeling area facility, six inmates escaped from a secure wing after sawing or jimmying open cells. Guards reported a chaotic scene with a broken desk and a station taken off its hook. Authorities linked the breach to a nearby skiff theft on the West Virginia bank of the Ohio river. Police pursued signs of crossing into Ohio as a stolen auto was found abandoned near Glendale. The escape marks the third for the fugitives, including Otto Nuff, life-sentenced for kidnapping, raising questions about security lapses and timing of prior alerts.
