Emperor Hirohito Visits MacArthur in Tokyo Embassy
Emperor Hirohito met General Douglas MacArthur for 90 minutes at the American embassy residence in Tokyo for talks described as likely of routine nature by sources close to MacArthur. The diet and political topics were not disclosed, but the food crisis and occupation context framed the discussion. Matsudaira, the emperor’s minister, stated the call followed the change of government and that Hirohito wished to thank MacArthur for sympathetic consideration during the food shortage.
