Lt Col Joe K Hinton of the U S Air Force has stayed in Hope with his parents Mr and Mrs L C Hinton of Spring Hill Road since last Friday. He is stationed at Laughlin Air Base Del Rio Texas where he trains new air crews. He and Mrs Hinton along with their son Joe K and daughter Mary Lynn will depart for Texas on Wednesday.

The rescuers navigated ice falls and treacherous terrain during the operation.
Florida man reports 6 year old June Marie Jennie Hoffman vanished from his tract on the lower Manhattan waterfront. Police canvass near the water vent area found a person named Toni seen with a child matching the missing girl’s description. The girl is said to have been placed in the man’s care by her mother Blanche Whitted and a letter showed support for adoption.

The 44th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the United States Southern branch voted yesterday to join with the Presbyterian Church in the U S A and the United Presbyterian Church. The long planned merger after 16 years of work aims to unite 3.14 million Presbyterians, following earlier votes by Northern assemblies. J D Turnage, a Yellow Cab driver from Hope, delivered a baby in his cab on Rose Hill Street after rushing the laboring woman to the hospital. He borrowed scissors and thread, sterilized them with alcohol, delivered the infant in the back seat, then returned the mother and newborn to her home and called the doctor.
