Beggars Revolt in Rio Grande Do Sul A Century Ago
A century ago in Rio Grande do Sul Brazil the 1834 revolt led by Bento Goncalves da Silva formed a disorganized army of beggars against absentee rule. After a decade of fighting the rebellion faded in 1845 yet inspired later liberty symbolism with stamps issued in 1935 marking the anniversary.
