Louise Lewis Wins Test at Saenger

Miss Louise Lewis, a local high school girl, won a screen elimination contest at the Saenger Theatre on Friday night. Runners-up included Elizabeth Garland Emmet Mattie Evans Hope Pauline Cox Gordon Dorothy Wright and Maxine Garland Emmet. A screw and voice test will be held next Thursday as a sound track arrives for testing.

Wallace Rogers is New Kiwanian at Hope First Baptist

The Rev. Walace Rogers, pastor of Hope First Baptist Church, was inducted into the Kiwanis club Friday night, increasing the month’s net membership. Rev. Geo F X Strassner gave the address praising youth and church organizing energy. John P. Cox welcomed Rogers and urged Kiwanis to match his drive. Continued on Page Two.

Russians Fortify Vladivostok Harbor for Potential Jap Attack

Report from Harbin that Soviet authorities are strengthening Vladivostok harbor approaches in expectation of a Japanese assault. Ten armored trains, about fifty tanks, sixty aircraft, and several artillery units arrive daily, with munitions and food also flowing in. Judge Payne Disputes $4.50 Day Wage Claim
