Hope Water Company origins and early electric lights
The Hope municipal water system began over 50 years ago with a simple well on Division Street opposite Greene's, Dan Ferguson as first operator. Electric lights appeared in Hope in 1890 when electricity was generated at the Hope Lumber Company run by Capt. J. T. West, with the city buying the generator and the Lumber Company providing steam power.
