Eleanor Early 1B 939 portrays Ruth's sister Rita, Bob Newton, Molly, and Zip at a dinner party. Ruth, now dead, is revealed to have died after confessing how Zip's harsh words and neglect led to her demise, haunted by the heartbreak of lost child and unfulfilled happiness.
Molly and Rita tidy the kitchen as Molly receives a frantic call from Zip. Ruth has died and Molly learns it was Ruth who asked Zip to tell Molly that she loved her good friend Molly. Zip arrives with news that Ruth died, heart failure, and Molly struggles to process the shock while Jack struggles to reassure her.
A fragmented dialogue follows Ruth and Zip as she frets over love and missed trains. Molly and Ruth recall their Freshman year and Zip’s moonstone gift, while Ruth’s heart wanders between hope and sorrow before the train arrives.
