Weekend thundershower chances slim in Arkansas

The Associated Press reports the weekend rain outlook in Arkansas is improving as a cool front moving through the state this morning stalls and weakens this weekend. The front provides the trigger for showers today but is expected to fade, reducing thunderstorm activity as the weekend progresses.

Vietnam ships home captured U.S. arms in bulk

Pentagon sources report North Vietnam has begun returning U.S. weapons it seized after South Vietnam fell. About 25 105 mm howitzers were seen in Haiphong aboard a U S landing ship. Estimates put total U S arms captured at around 2 billion dollars in usable gear, with about 3 billion more in damaged stock.

Electricity costs rise 30 percent nationwide in 1974

The EPA report shows American spending on electricity jumped 30 percent in 1974 largely due to higher fuel costs. Residential rates rose about 23 percent and commercial industrial users about 33 percent, with Atlantic Pacific coast areas hit hardest. New England and Middle Atlantic states also saw the largest increases.

Newsman allowed to stay in India after pledge

Daniel South erland of the Christian Science Monitor won permission to remain in India after signing a pledge to accept responsibility for his reporting on Indian developments. He had faced a 24 hour deportation order issued amid censorship rules tied to the June 26 emergency. The government dropped the demand for the old pledge and limited the requirement to accountability for content.

Obituary for Grady Williams 72 Forest Hill church member

Grady Williams 72 died Friday in a local hospital. He was a member of Forest Hill Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife Arlene a daughter Polly Anna Core of Fort Smith a brother Buck Williams of Hope a sister Mrs Ludie Wright of Houston and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Herndon Funeral Home chapel with Rev Noel O'Steen officiating and Rev James Hunt of Fort Smith assisting. Burial will be in Memory Gardens.
