Four Firms to Finance Helena Bridge
A conjunction of four investment firms offered a 4.2 percent rate on the Highway Department’s 5,550,000 Helena Bridge bond refinancing. The bid by Raney Securities and Stephens Investment of Little Rock, White Weld of New York, and Rawles Winston of Houston was the only bid. The Highway Commission sent it to counsel for review, with Acting Highway Director Ward Goodman saying the plan would save about 100,000 in interest and extend debt to 1987. The refinancing would also allow bridge revenues to fund roughly 60,000 annually for maintenance, changing Arkansas’ share from general highway funds to revenue-backed payments.
