Viet Cong and North Vietnamese caches uncovered across Saigon area
Allied forces reported heavy fighting around Saigon with Viet Cong and North Vietnamese units shelling outposts and burning villages 15 miles southeast of Da Nang. In a night engagement southwest of Saigon, ten American soldiers were killed and nine wounded as U.S. infantry and artillery targeted infiltrators. South Vietnamese troops found mortar rounds, rockets, and other arms in caches northwest of Saigon while Australian and New Zealand troops pressed bunkers east of the city. Civilian tolls and casualties remained unconfirmed as the combat continued across several locales.
