Free Hegari seed supply exhausted by large demand
Free Hegari seed distributed to Trempstead county farmers exceeds 2,500 pounds with more to be sold next week at about 10 vents a pound, Monts Seed Store reports. Seed, a hot weather grain substitute similar to kaffir corn, is touted as drought resistant and a livestock feed option for corn-damaged farms. Negari or high gear has gained popularity in Hempstead County, with broader planting expected as relief from the drought drives demand.
