Glenda Maroney, 15, of near Banks, is set to testify in the first degree murder trial of 16-year-old James Ray Edrington, charged with fatally shooting her father J H Maroney Jr. in his sleep with a .22 rifle March 10. Deposed Congressman Adam Clayton Powell sails toward New York to seek a stay and appeal of a criminal contempt ruling. NAACP says Powell will be met by a sheriff at Kennedy Airport and later seek court relief from the State Supreme Court to delay arrest and escalate the appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. Powell faces at least 90 days in jail and has added civil penalties totaling 174000 dollars.
South Vietnamese and South Korean troops reported 380 Communist soldiers killed in two battles Friday as U S carrier pilots shot at MIGs over North Vietnam. Elite Vietnamese units claimed 240 enemy dead in Quang Tri while Korean forces said 140 Viet Cong were killed in Binh Dinh, capturing 70 weapons.
