In Little Rock on July 20, the weather bureau director says Arkansas summers are not unusual. Rain has been frequent with heat at times, but long term records show normal precipitation and temperatures, including 1888 as a very wet year and 1930 as notably dry.
The July roster includes church meetings at First Baptist and First Christian, a Center community club picnic, a Presbyterian Bible class fish fry, and softball games at Cummins Field. Also noted are a Covington Phillips wedding at the courthouse, timber management demonstrations by the Chamber of Committee, and local social visits.
Montgomery county farmer Jeffer son Davis Tackett is held to the grand jury on a manslaughter charge over a shotgun incident with a friend Almer Diggs I. The weapon discharged during a playful scuffle, neither man aware it was loaded, per a Municipal Judge Max Witt ruling after a hearing.
