United States and Canada agreed by treaty to build a 543 million dollar St Lawrence river seaway. The 27 foot waterway will connect the sea to Great Lakes with costs split equally. Hoover hailed the pact as redemption of a promise to the Middle West.
A telegram exchange between Governor Roosevelt and President Hoover centers on a vast St Lawrence river power plan. New York would build a powerhouse and pay about 80 million, while federal cost sharing and treaty approval hinge on Congress. The deal aims to deepen the river for an all water route and massive electricity output.
Hempstead County officials except two sign a petition by the Taxpayers' League urging a salary cut effective August 1. The two dissenters are County Clerk Arthur Anderson and Circuit Clerk Willie Harris. Anderson cites legal penalties for reducing his pay. Harris does not seek re-election.

In Oxford Mississippi Sheriff S T Lyles said he would file a murder charge against Jessee Tatum after his wife burned to death in a car fire. Tatum claimed she tried to rescue their parrot as flames engulfed the vehicle returning from St Louis near Oakland. His first wife died from a shotgun discharge ruled accidental by the coroner's jury.
In Madiil Oklahoma a Sunday pistol duel in a drugstore left Wiley Lynn, Crockett Long, and Rhody Watkins dead. Lynn had been acquitted years before of killing Bill Tilghman. Long died after four bullets struck him as he fired. Lynn shot at Long and died Monday. Watkins, a farm boy at the soda fountain, died early Monday. Authorities said the feud between Lynn and Long sparked the gunfight.
A Hempstead County Taxpayers League committee proposes a majority and minority report on city salaries in Hope. It outlines monthly figures for officials and staff, recommends consolidating offices, and lists pay for Water and Light Plant workers. The minority urges higher rates in some spots.

Emergency office space was set up in corridors to process applications. Rocky Mound beat Columbus 10 to 2 Sunday at Fair Park in Hope.

Joy Bowling, 16, of Baxter Springs Kansas died after a Missouri and North Arkansas freight train struck him near Leslie early Monday. Trainmen could not determine if he fell from the train or slept on the tracks.
A decedent in his fifties with gray hair and blue eyes was found in weeds off Hope Washington road six miles northwest of Hope. Autopsy showed internal injuries from blows and multiple bruises. a coroner’s inquest was planned. Laundry tag N. G. M. and wrapping paper bearing Minden La. were found among his belongings.
Judge A B Priddy of Russellville, Democratic gubernatorial candidate, will address Spring Hill voters at 8 oclock Wednesday night and speak at Hope at the all day rally Thursday morning. He advocates economy in government, removal of overlapping agencies, road maintenance, and strong support for schools while opposing new taxes and bonds.
J F Wardlow aged about 8 died at his home in McCaskill after a lingering illness. Funeral service at Friendship church with burial in the local cemetery. Survived by five sons Walter Bob Rolf Otis and Roscoe all of McCaskill. daughters Eva McDougald of Blevins and Annie Harris of Oklahoma.
