Public May Not Fatten Official Pay
Arkansas officials say the public cannot voluntarily fund state tax collectors salaries. Assistant Attorney General Tom Tanner issued an opinion to the Revenue Department as it closes some county offices to save money. Bethel Larey, former revenue commissioner, noted businessmen offered to cover most of a revenue agent salary to keep offices open at Siloam Springs and Parkin. Tanner's view deemed the offer improper as it would tie salaries to taxpayers goodwill the agents collect from.
