Loyalty fingerprint system heads to Senate pigeonhole
Washington July 11 House passed legislation to create a federal employee loyalty and loyalty checks system requiring fingerprinting. The measure cleared 219 to 61 amid bitter parental complaints and Senate plans for the last days of the session weigh heavy. Rep Kefauver warned the bill could alarm workers while Rep Cannella said the plan would deter improper thinking. The Civil Service Committee argued the registration provides safeguards and protects against disloyal employees.
