The Senate Armed Services Committee backed a military reserves bill that ends compulsory training for present and former servicemen. Future reserve training would apply only to those entering regular service 30 days after the law, delaying compulsory drills until late 1957. The House favored broader use of training, but the Senate committee rejected that, proposing voluntary enlistment in reserve units for two years.
