Sweet Home Visit Set Thursday by Chamber Leaders

The Hope Hempstead County Chamber sponsors area visitors to communities in the Hope Trade Area. The first visit is Thursday in Sweet Home, with assembly on Main Street in Hope between 6:00 and 6:40. A caravan will take attendees to Sweet Home where a dinner is served at 7:30 organized by Sweet Home women, followed by time for fellowship and visiting.

Magnolia Man Held in Hope Robbery

Odell Johnson, 33, of Magnolia, arrested on burglary and grand larceny charges after the Hardee and Son Grocery robbery. His brother Theodies, of Los Angeles, also charged but released on a 750 bond. Police Break Up Riot in Milwaukee

Police used tear gas smoke canisters and riot sticks to disperse about 1000 youths at Water Tower Park Milwaukee. Four officers and a youth were injured and 12 people arrested as signs marking a 10 p.m. curfew were torn down and police cars were pelted with bottles.

Man Killed in Texarkana Crash

Unice D. Megee aged 29 from Texarkana Texas died after his car collided at an intersection in Texarkana. Police said his vehicle then struck a tree following the initial impact.

New School Term Begins August 27

James H. Jones announces the first week of school schedule with a teachers meeting August 24 to 26 and grade registrations beginning August 27. Disabled Miners Press On With Mine Closure Bid

In Charleston West Virginia disabled miners aided by pickets pressed a bid to halt coal production across five Appalachian states after a federal court restraining order. Fifteen mines employing about 5000 workers remained shut as leaders warned the stoppage could fail without broader support. Early reports show seven mines in southern West Virginia four in eastern Kentucky and four in western Virginia closed while western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio offered no assistance.

Rockefeller Organization Formed Here in Hope Arkansas
