A 25 day strike at Arkansas Steel Co. in El Dorado ending with a three year contract. Leonard Pesses president of the firm and Ed Batchelor head of Local 381 I U of E announced the settlement affecting about 40 workers.
Hope City officials and Mrs E H Daniel owner of the Laneburg ice cream wagon urged motorists to observe caution lights and a dropping arm to warn when serving children. A child was seriously injured crossing the street with an ice cream cone after being struck by a passing car. The City Board urged extreme caution around vehicles serving children.
Robert H. Cox of The American Legion Leslie Huddleston Post 12 announced an installation for new officers by District Commander Gordon T. Emory of DeQueen and a joint meeting with the Ladies Auxiliary at the Armory on Thursday July 20 1967 at 7 00 p m Dinner will be served and ladies urged to bring covered dishes.
In Little Rock AP dispatch State Purchasing Director Sidney A Kegeles accused Secretary of State Kelly Bryant of creating obstacles for the Printing Review Committee where Bryant serves as recording secretary The committee debated revising bid specifications and Kegeles silenced Bryant saying he had no vote The Miss Arkansas contest is underway in Hot Springs and closes Saturday night. The scene also notes contestants and chaperones from Hope Camden Magnolia Van Buren Hope and Magnolia.
The Red River Vocational Technical School and Hope Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce sponsor a Telephone Technique Improvement Course on July 18 and 19. Secretaries receptionists and others meeting the public by telephone may attend two hour sessions at 9 to 11 am or 1 30 to 3 30 pm each day with a possible two hour night session if enough interest. A concert and gospel singing by Sego Brothers and Naomi is set for Saturday July 15 at 8 p.m. at Southside Assembly Church with pianist Eddy Crook, former Plainsmen accompanist. Ed dy Crook will accompany the group. Stephen Day 2 of Pine Bluff was fatally struck crossing U S 65 north of Pine Bluff by a car driven by 25 year old Sandra Reid of Little Rock. Day was the son of Mr and Mrs James Day of Pine Bluff.
The Arkansas Bar Association executive committee will meet Saturday to consider Governor Rockefeller’s request for names of potential referees in his dispute with the Game and Fish Commission. He accuses misconduct by some members and suggests an investigative hearing as a possibility.

No. 2 H L Copeland 1,980 feet north and 3,330 feet west of the southeast corner of 28-14S-23W waits on rig to test Smackover Lime at 6,000 feet. all located about five miles from Patmos.
Washington AP reports the Senate Foreign Relations Committee trimmed President Johnson's 1967 foreign aid bill by more than 250 million dollars amid opposition to Vietnam policies. Secretary of State Dean Rusk plans to testify to defend the legislation as the panel also rejected authority for automatic increases and large private investment guarantees.
Mrs. Norman Smith of 810 South Main Street Hope and Mrs. Kenneth Petre of 1311 South Hervey Hope will lead the 1967 American Cancer Society Crusade in Hope. The drive begins July 24. Smith cites cancer risks and urges early detection to save lives and fund nationwide research.
The House subcommittee approved a postal rate increase that would raise first class letters to six cents and air mail to ten cents. Postcards would rise to six cents for surface mail and ten cents for all air mail. The plan still faces passage through Congress.

Each side reports tank losses as UN observers move to station troops. Egypt claims an Israeli tank was destroyed. Israel says it knocked out three Egyptian tanks.
Four locks and dams downstream from Little Rock will close by October 1, Col. Frank P. Bane said. Dam No 2 will close about August 3, Dam No 3 about August 15, Dam No 4 about September 15, and Dam No 5 around October 1. Dams 2 and 3 span Arkansas and DeKalb Counties, while Dams 4 and 5 lie in Jefferson County. Navigation to Fort Smith targeted for late season.
