Immunization plan underway in Hempstead County Hope clinics planned
Immunization effort gains national notice and will involve about 70 volunteers in a two week door to door survey in Hope area to immunize all children to age 15. 2,000 Hempstead County children targeted with countywide Rural Extension involvement and clinics scheduled September 8 and 9 at Hope National Guard Armory and rural sites. Volunteers needed for clerical, transportation, records, and follow up to ensure completion of immunization series under the theme Every Child By 74.

Bossier prisoners thwart jailbreak in courthouse
Four inmates armed with knives staged a cell fight at the Bossier Parish jail on the fifth floor of the courthouse. Deputy J W Hollis, calling via a telephone, heard the scuffle and alerted officers who rushed in as prisoners surrendered. Wounded jailer Pilkington received a cut to his arm and eyelid. Prisoner hanged in North Little Rock jail cell
North Little Rock police report 20 year old Dennis Birchett hanged himself in a jail cell Thursday after a drunkenness arrest. Lt Robert Tucker said Birchett was alone in the cell when his body was found dangling from a shirt rope.
