After 20 years as a postman Lorin F. Shipper allegedly delivered only important looking letters leaving two tons of unopened mail to accumulate in his garage and in old cars on his lawn. The mail dated from 1953 and 1954 and about 10 percent was first class. Roy Peterson, Southampton postmaster, said there were no complaints of missed mail and that the carrier delivered what he deemed important. Shipper, 75, retired in 195%, told postal officials he could not recall how the remainder ended up there. Peterson noted the five-year statute of limitations.

Freight rate hike suspended by commerce commission
The Arkansas Commerce Commission suspended a proposed four percent increase in freight rates on furniture shipped by motor carriers between southern and southwestern states. A Little Rock Chamber of Commerce spokesman said the suspension lasts until a hearing.
