Star Ends Linotype Era with Offset Press Transition

The Hope Star moves from linotypes and hot metal to offset production this week, ending generations of metal slugs. A rotary offset press began in December, with January 7 marking the end of metal assembly. New cold type machines include two Fairehild Morina photo-setters and two pairs of Friden Just-O-Writers, which print headlines and telegraph news from perforated tapes, delivering crisper text.
