Berlin Occupation Zones Transfer Led by Bradley
In Berlin on July 4 1945 American and British troops assumed control of their occupation sectors. Major General Viktor Baranov formally turned over the American zone to General Omar N. Bradley at 4 p.m. with a .48 gun salute and honor guards. Bradley expressed hope for lasting peace and friendship between the nations while Russian and American bands played. British troops soon followed, drawing faint cheers from about 1500 Berliners at their arrival.

Dad the Unsung Hero on Father’s Day
A reflective column contrasts the public fervor for Mother's Day with the subdued regard for Fathers Day. It notes fathers share in wartime loss and sacrifice, but public sympathy centers on mothers as the pages of best sellers and stage dramas applaud mothers while fathers remain largely overlooked.
