Army Pvt. Lawrence Dean 31 died in a one car accident near Atascadero California about 20 miles north of San Luis Obispo He was the son of the Rev and Mrs Solomon S Dean of Jacksonville Arkansas and had served in the Army since March 1954 stationed at Camp Roberts.

A double fatality near Malvern Arkansas ends in murder death by own action. Mr and Mrs Thomas Dewey Bloomer were shot at 4 15 pm beside a wrecking yard near US 270 and 87. Mrs Bloomer died from a temple wound. Bloomer died later in Little Rock hospital. The couple, married about three months, had three children each. A .32 caliber pistol was found at the scene. Deputy Thornton and Trooper Holcomb investigated after reports of a disturbance at the Booners trailer home nearby.
The UN General Assembly, in emergency session since June 17, nears a vote on rival Middle East crisis resolutions. One group urges immediate Israeli withdrawal from Egypt, Jordan, and Syria and asks the Security Council to address all related issues later. The other seeks withdrawal plus urgent consideration of all aspects of the situation without delaying the withdrawal. Outcome hinges on a two thirds majority amid intensive lobbying by Latin American, African, Allied, and nonaligned blocs.
Three minor auto accidents were investigated over the weekend by City Police. On North Hervey Mrs. James Pruden and James C. Rowe collided with minor damage. On Third Street Alex West’s car rolled into Mrs. Delva Stoltenberg’s vehicle. West failed to set the parking brake. Later Elm Street Erma Jones and Perry Cheatham collided with minor damage. Cheatham received minor injuries at a local clinic.
S K Stu Prosser of Conway named general manager of the Arkansas Bus and Truck Association effective July 10 Loyd Ramer president announces the appointment. Prosser has served as state Civil Defense director since August 1962 until March of this year.

In the first Corps region below the DMZ, about 3,000 North Vietnamese regulars attacked. U.S. Marines reported 51 dead 34 missing 170 wounded with 265 American casualties overall. They claimed 65 Communist bodies found and noted air artillery and naval gunfire likely killed more. The action included a 100‑truck convoy ambush near Da Nang, Marine outpost at Con Thien, and damage to Dong Ha airfield. A Navy Skyhawk pilot was listed missing, while two Air Force Thunderchief pilots were rescued after night hoist. The 1st Cavalry and airborne units engaged a fortified guerrilla stronghold in Bong Son Province, with 75 enemy killed 19 dead and 33 wounded after nine hours. The fighting intensified as July 4th approached.
