Hempstead county's Fifth War Loan drive is 54 percent subscribed with only three working days left to meet a $300,000 shortfall. County Chairman C. C. Spragins urged Victory Canvassers and citizens to attend a 10 am meeting at Hope city hall to boost donations.
Two car crash on State Highway 55 just north of Fulton injures two men and a pedestrian. Bob Elmore Jr and Winston Erwin suffer severe head cuts while Lennon Wafer sustains a broken leg and left collarbone. Both cars are demolished. Elmore Sr and others aid the injured to Julia Chester hospital.
The Hope post office will close July 4 for the holiday. Postmaster Robert Wilson announced no mail delivery by city or rural carriers and all office windows will be closed for the day.
