Substitute Court Bill Is Opposed
Washington. Administration forces, abandoning their long fight for the Roosevelt court bill, offered Friday a substitute which opponents said is no better. Opposition leaders said they would try to sidetrack the court measure for the session. They will ask that the substitute be sent to the Senate Judiciary Committee for study. Those in charge of the new bill said they had enough votes to prevent its being sent to the committee, and enough to pass it. They prepared to begin arguments for it on the Senate floor Tuesday.

Wage gains offset by higher prices
The American Federation of Labor said price rises over three years nearly wiped out gains from higher pay. Government data show average annual pay rose about 142 dollars in 1093 but living costs offset all but 17 of that gain. The union warned price hikes from large industrial combinations erode real income and called for worker organization and consumer cooperatives to curb price exploitation.
